Over the last decade, laboratory automation has proven to be critical, and its benefits, such as increased throughput, standardisation, and reproducibility, have been recognised by organisations worldwide. However, today, more than ever, the demand for efficient laboratory processes and high-throughput workflows has increased, whereby enhancing high throughput testing capabilities without scaling workflows can limit efficiencies. Against this backdrop, a global total solutions provider of innovative extraction DNA/RNA technology –MolGen– is breaking new ground in molecular automation with its innovative high-throughput workflows, containing hardware, reagents, consumables, service and software. The company’s systems, reagents and consumables increase productivity while maintaining high yields and reproducibility. MolGen has strengthened its position in the industry by offering complete solutions for the Ag biotech and the life sciences markets.

“By automating and scaling-up in testing and diagnosis, MolGen streamlines the molecular workflow, enabling high throughput, low error procedures, and achieving all this at a cost significantly lower than conventional modalities,” says NielsKruize, CEO of MolGen. Automating the extraction workflow using MolGen automated systems is useful for highthrough put laboratories in reducing human error and increasing traceability and standardisation.

Likewise, what gives MolGen an edge over its contemporaries after the global outbreak is its innovative MegaPrep workflow. By working with leading laboratories across the Netherlands and Europe, the MegaPrep workflow uses the same principles as any other COVID-19 extraction and PCR detection methodology but is implemented on an industrial scale. A combination of smart automation innovations and massive parallel PCR can process larger amounts of samples in a shorter timeframe and at a lower cost. The saliva collection kit mixes saliva with a stabilisation lysis transport buffer; this tube can either be collected in a drop-off box or sent in a safety bag to a lab where the PCR test is performed.

Furthermore, the barcode on the tube combined with a video recording of the sample collection in the MegaPrep app allows for non-invasive, safe and anonymous sample collection.

From sample to result, MolGen challenges the status-quo of molecular diagnostics by offering diagnostics automation solutions, consumables and reagents with high-throughput and at lower costs. One such noteworthy product from MolGen is PurePrep TTR. Fully automated, PurePrep TTR is a highquality, professional-grade liquid handling device that transfers liquid at an exceptionally accelerated rate from tubes to Deep Well microtiter plates with exceptional precision. PurePrep TTR is well-suited for large laboratories with highthroughput processes due to its innovative diagnostic workflow.

MolGen’s philosophy is creating connections between people, and specialists in all areas of the life science industry, closely working with its customers to help solve their challenges.

By automating and scaling-up in testing and diagnosis, MolGen streamlines the molecular workflow, enabling high-throughput, low error procedures, and achieving all this at a cost that is significantly lower.

To paint a better picture of MolGen’s state-of-the-art customisable solutions, Kruize shares an instance involving the high throughput aliquoting and barcoding of urine samples for downstream analytical analysis. Drug testing is a common requirement for people at the workspace with certain jobs. A leading diagnostic company needed a solution to open a large number of containers safely but fast, minimizing the involvement of laboratory technicians having to perform this extremely repetitive work. MolGen designed the system for its client and is planning roll out the system over more than a hundred distinct testing sites, scaling up in a short timeline as deemed necessary.

Having scripted many such stories and addressing the growing demand for high-quality genomic DNA and RNA extraction from various samples, MolGen has been instrumental in motivating people to get tested twice a week by lifting the barriers to mass PCR testing. The company is set to find more avenues for partnership, creating greater cost efficiencies and bringing the most advanced equipment to laboratories and emerging markets across the globe. Steering ahead, MolGen will continue to work on high-frequency testing and monitoring to redefine how the world looks at disease and other life science conditions now and in the future.
